One of my research streams examines how charisma shapes leadership, with a particular focus on its role in informal leadership settings and the processes through which charismatic individuals emerge and exert influence. I also study the darker sides of charisma, including how charismatic influence can produce harmful, unethical, or otherwise unintended consequences for followers and organizations.
Another one of my research streams examines how social stereotypes shape the experiences and evaluations of managers, with a particular focus on how female leaders can communicate in ways that enhance leadership effectiveness while navigating gendered expectations. I also study how organizations can foster allyship through effective institutional communication and evidence-based interventions that promote more inclusive workplace behavior.
My research uses immersive virtual reality to examine how embodied experiences shape communication, behavior, and leadership-related outcomes in realistic social settings. In particular, I study how avatar characteristics and contextual cues influence individuals’ confidence, speaking behavior, and use of effective leadership communication strategies.
